Known for her strong textural paintings, Gemma breaths life into her works with focused energy. Whether with washes of oil paints, rapid brushstrokes daubed thick with paint, to soft pastels, to capturing the haze of a moment with a film of beeswax. An artist who prefers to use wood, calico, hessian as the support for her pieces. Each distinctive work evolves as if it has it’s own history and message. As if it is an historical artefact.
